Elder Scrolls Online’s new trailer teases Dark Heart of Skyrim for 2020

At The Game Awards tonight, ZeniMax revealed a sweet new Elder Scrolls Online trailer as promised, capping off the game’s Season of the Dragon and following up its two earlier cinematics with this third and final episode. Press F to pay respects to a certain fan-favorite character…

And also pay close attention to the very end of the video, as it becomes clear from the trailer that we’ll be heading off to Skyrim in 2020. As we’ve previously noted, the studio will be announcing its year-long arc plan on January 16th from its Vegas event, but as the reveal makes clear, the arc itself is called the Dark Heart of Skyrim.

I think that trailer’s a fake. Do you expect me to believe that Abnur Tharn actually DOES something instead of going on about needing to conserve his power?

Well that final look could have been “I am just gonna take a nap and rest look”

What do you think that last scene was.

Joking aside, ESO and FFXIV both are tops for storytelling in the business.

Now it’s gonna have a horrible new login screen and music to the reflect the theme of this old (read “new”) and horrible chapter of TES. Skyrim was the worst game and the worst location. I’m glad I quit this game, but on the other hand I’m glad they are doing this, because it means the faster they are done with this horrible chapter, the faster things can move on to something more interesting, like Black Marsh or Hammerfell.

Morrowind was the best TES game, Skyrim was a dumbed-down shallow action game with dragons and vikings.

Even Oblivion was better where everyone looked like a grandma, at least they didn’t dumb-down all the skills completely:

In Skyrim you learn the story before you even take control of your character, in Morrowind, you play for hours and have no clue what’s up. Talk about predictable, watered down game with the biggest cliches ever – dragons and vikings… woah, so original.

In Morrowind when you join one guild, you can’t join a certain other, because they hate each other, this also means the NPCs now hate you too and won’t cooperate with you, in Skyrim you join everything and become the leader of everything in 5 minutes. Skyrim’s Mages guild quests are a complete joke, same goes for the rest of them. Good luck becoming the leader of the Mages guild in Morrowind in 5 minutes…

Skyrim is a game when you want to introduce your grandparents to gaming, because it’s so simple and dumbed-down that even if they don’t know how to use a computer, they will create a better character than yours in no time. 17 years later I still don’t know the full extent of the Alchemy or Spell Making in Morrowind.

And yet Morrowind sold 4 million copies and Skyrim sold 20 million copies. Clearly “some” people do not agree 😉

Akagi is a huge Classic “fan” ( let’s go with that word ) and already demonstrated in several topics that he has a obsession with oldschool games.

Hell, I like oldschool stuff and i’m not like that.

Selling 20 copies at the time compared to the time Morrowind came out is not fair. Morrowind did not get the press as Skyrim got. Morrowind was an RPG that catered to hardcore RPG players while Skyrim was dumbed down for the Xbox kids that hated not having a horse or understanding how the map worked in Morrowind. Or it not being level scaled so you could go anywhere and face no danger. Morrowind will always be the better game.

I can’t say I agree with this, simply because it released at the same time for PC and 360 doesn’t equate to it meaning it was made for xbox kids if anything it was made for Elder Scrolls fans and thats about the I.p not the control schemes and minutiae.

As to their marketing that isn’t at all relative as to whether a game is good or not simply how they choose to present it, any differences on that front were business decisions made by THEM not by the audience and from what I recall all the marketing was about being part of a world not selling xboxes 🙂

The long and short of it is simply that whether people liked Morrowind OR Skyrim both were good games for what they did and with that said it is also indisputable that Skyrim had the wider appeal so much so that it put it in the Top 20 list of Best Selling games of all time, and I think it’s safe to say the majority of those 20 million people were not unsatisfied customers heck the game still stay on the first page or two of Twitch to this day of games being streamed people “still” love it.

I am a hardcore RPG player too, RPG’s are my bread and butter when it comes to games yet I still loved and enjoyed Skyrim. I do not find liking one in any way a necessitating factor for disliking the other. they are both good games, albeit slightly different, but there is no need to tear one down simply because someone likes the other.

Heck if people wanted a Morrowind type experience in Skyrim and from Skyrim they could have modded it, yet I haven’t seen such a mod trending on NexusMods in the eight years since its release which would lead me to believe they probably don’t.
